Starting Niyama

Starting Niyama

Niyama (Sanskrit: नियम) Means positive duties or observances.

Hey there!

My name is Danielle and I am so excited to be launching Niyama to the world! I thought I would introduce myself with a little blog post to let you get to know me better! I am a student from Scotland studying Contemporary Art Practice with a focus on Photography. I am passionate about art (of course), travel, meditation, yoga and food!

I strongly believe that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. If you are passionate enough about it and work hard enough for it then it's yours for the taking! To be completely honest, working a 9-5 job that I hate is probably one of m

biggest fears. I would rather be doing what I love day in and day out and I absolutely believe that is possible. That is why I want to make Niyama.co a platform for likeminded people to grow and share their journey to becoming better people!

The idea behind creating the brand Niyama.co came from my experiences travelling through India and Nepal. It was a bit of a wake-up call for me as it was the first time I had seen the effect of plastic waste first hand. In the UK (where I am from) We are fortunate enough to have a great waste disposal system and a wonderful education system to make us aware of these issues. I was shocked when in India and Nepal there was plastic waste everywhere, clogging up rivers and scattered around the streets.

This trip made me question my own actions and inspired me to make a change. I was looking for a new project to put my energy into and the inspiration couldn't have come at a better time. I wanted to find an alternative material that was just as durable, comfortable but more sustainable. Then I found out about the wonders of Hemp Fibre! (I am going to write a full blog post on this. I'm just too excited about it and there's so much to cover!)

I began meeting with suppliers in Nepal and learning about their processes. It is so important to me that we build meaningful relationships with our creators and that we know where our products come from. This way we can guarantee they receive a fair wage and work in safe environments.

I want Niyama.co to become an educational platform for people to learn, grow and share their experiences. I hope for this to become so much more than just another online store and to inspire people to come along on this journey with us!
